This sounds pretty self explanatory but there are certain features in every signature that immediately stand out and if they are not alike than it is probably a fake. The 1992 the FBI had a sting in the sports memorabilia industry looking for counterfeit autographs. They believe that more than 60 % of the autographs being sold in the market are fakes. This does not mean that the dealer or dealers selling them know that they are fake because they purchased them from other dealers who they thought were reputable.
