In the recent Mastro auction an Alex Rodriguez SP rookie card graded 9.5 Sold for $3500. This is a lot of money but take into consideration that this card sold in the past for over $12,000. So is it the economy, is it the lack of Alex Rodriguez fans? I believe the cards was just over inflated in the baseball card boom. I would just tell you beware of paying insane prices for cards that were printed in the 80′s and 90′s.

Ways to tell a Counterfeit Autograph
Most autographs that have been counterfeited or faked have strong break points in the signaature. In another words the signatures is not fluid. It shows in many spots that the counterfeiter has stopped the sharpie marker or pen to stop in a few different places to make sure that the autograph looks like the original. This is extremly prevelant when the autograph has many rounded areas like in the letter “A” or “O”.
Another way to tell if an autograph is fake is simply by looking at the original letter by letter to review to see if they look the same. This sounds pretty self explanatory but there are certain features in every signature that immediately stand out and if they are not alike than it is probably a fake. The 1992 the FBI had a sting in the sports memorabilia industry looking for counterfeit autographs. They believe that more than 60 % of the autographs being sold in the market are fakes. This does not mean that the dealer or dealers selling them know that they are fake because they purchased them from other dealers who they thought were reputable.

The 1994 Alex Rodriguez SP Holoview rookie is Alex’s best know card. There were only 1000 printed of the Blue Holoview Rookies as well as 242 of the Red Die-Cut Holoviews. As far as baseball cards go these are extremely rare compared to the hundreds of thousands of regularly printed Alex Rodriguez Rookie cards. If Alex can break Barry Bond’s Home run record expect these cards do exceed many milestone’s when it comes to the value of any baseball rookie card of all-time.
